Dell 600M laptop wont hibernate

Comment:
I just reinstalled windows on my laptop using the supplied Dell Windows XP reinstallation CD and I did all the windows updates including the SP2 updates, but whenever I close the lid of my laptop it will not hibernate. I went to the power options and it does not give me the option to hibernate when I close the lid, it just says 'Do Nothing' when the lid is closed.
I installed most of the drivers including the chipset. What could be the problem?

Is there any yellow marks in the device manager? If so you might have to install additional drivers.

I agree with the above. You need to install the drivers provided to you by Dell on a separate CD apart from XP installation CD.

I also agree with the above but have a question. Did the laptop hibernate prior to the system restore?

The laptop hibernated fine a while back, then I switched to Ubuntu linux, and for the job I have, I had to switch back to windows so I just used the Dell XP cd. I must have lost the drivers cd. I am downloading the drivers off the website, the only one I can't find is USB Controller. I am downloading the Notebook System Software, as I type... that may fix it.
