To clarify, did you install a second drive into your desktop computer running Windows 7? And you want to install WinXP onto the second hard drive?

Are you trying to access the WinXP CD while in Windows 7?

What I was trying to do was to remove original hd which had win 7 on it and replace it with another hd and use xp pro . If I boot on original win 7 hd and add second hd as drive e: I can access the contents of cd. I appreciate the help as I really do not know that much about computers.

Why are you removing the original hard drive. You should be able to install a second hard drive.

Why do you want to install WinXP? WinXP is at the end of the product life cycle. Windows 7 is a better OS than XP. I recommend you just stay with Windows 7.

Is there some particular reason you want WinXP?
