Deleting Win XP bacup line...??

I recently downloaded a boot screen, and along with it, it installed a backup line.
Every time I start up my computer, I have to wait until the OS screen comes up now and choose between Win XP or the Win XP backup line.

It's annoying me, because I can't just turn on my computer, do something else, and wait for it to boot. I have to wait there and manually select Win XP.

Is there any way to delete this 'backup line'?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Now, now, now... if you're going to mess with vital system settings you should know how to fix these things yourself.

In any case it's easy. Just run MSCONFIG (Start > Run > 'msconfig' > OK). Go to the BOOT.INI tab and change the value in the box on the right labled "Timeout" to about 3 seconds. This makes Windows startup fast, but also gives you time to choose the backup in case you need it.

Lol, which boot screen do you use? I use this one.

Brian,
Do a system restore to a time before you downloaded that program. Hopefully you have system restore turned on. Start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore.

No... don't perform a system restore. It won't help you at all. Just do what I said in Post #2.

Hmmm.. I did what Dr. Nick says, but that doesn't take care of the backup line.

I want to delete the backup line so my computer will automatically boot into Win XP with my modified boot screen.

Thanks

No, no, no!

A system restore will NOT help. If anything it will reset your computer to how it was before you installed the new boot screen.

It's a very good idea to let that boot selection screen come up, if only for a few seconds. What happens if you try to use a bad bootscreen? Because the file that you modified (ntoskernel.exe) is VITAL to starting your computer, if it gets screwed up, then your computer is dead until you fix it, and you will have to spend a LOT of time fixing it. By leaving both options in the menu, and displaying it for 3 seconds, you can avoid hours of possible work in the future.

Trust me. I have the same setup you do. Set it for 3 seconds and live with it. I mean, come on. 3 seconds isn't that much, and you don't have to choose one. Just let it count down from 3 seconds and it will automatically pick the top one, which should have your modified boot screen. If it doesn't automatically choose your modified screen, post back. That's an easy fix too.
