I have Windows ME but am trying to help a friend by showing her how to delete temporary internet files and how to run scan disk as well as defragment. She has XP and I have been unable to find the temp. internet file folder nor have I been able to show her how to defragment. (a case of the blind leading the blind) Can anyone help?

The temp folder (assuming Xp is on C:) is here:

C:\Documents And Settings\Username\Local Settings

Both the "Temp" folder and "Temporary Internet Files" folder are in this location.

You MUST enable hidden files and folders to see it. You can do this by going to Control Panel, then Folder Options, then click on the View tab. Scroll down to "Show hidden files and folders" check the box, apply and exit.

Disk Defragmenter can be found at Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools.

Hallo, Do the following to see, your internet temp fplder: open interntet explorer. Click: Tools> Internet Options. In the "General Tab" click the button "Settings" and then the button: "View Files". This will open the folder that Contains "Temporary Internet Files". You don't really need to delete these files. Windows delete them automatically when the size of the folder increases to for eksempel over 300 mbs.

Arif

Sorry, I missed one. Scandisk, or CHKDSK as it's now known, can be accessed by going to Start > Run, typing:

CHKDSK

and hitting Enter.

All this stuff can easily be found in the Help and Support section of the Start menu.

Your friend can also have her TIFs emptied on closure of IE...

...IE\Tools\Options - Advanced Tab - Security Section - 'Empty Temporary .....'
