deleting system folders

Hi Some time ago I backed up my entire c:\windows xp os to a 2nd harddrive (slave). The slave (d:)has nearly 200 gig of all sorts of valuable info on it.
I am trying to clean up the slave by deleting some unwanted stuff which includes the 'documents and settings' folder from that xp os backup I did ages ago, but it won't let me?
check attributes on files, may need to be in safe mode /administrator to delete specific files ...

G'day Archifx, It could be that the C: registry has detected system folders in D: and has registered them as well or maybe swapped them but I doubt it. Can you delete them from a bootdisc ?
