What do people know/think about deleting all registry files from XP Pro and then restarting the computer? Will XP reinstall newly, any missing registry files? If this works, do people know of instructions/programs that will help me do this?

What if I delete the registry and boot from my XP cd? Will it be fixed? By the way, this method was suggested by someone who said it used to work with Win 98.

Seems kinda extreme. What are you trying to 'fix'? I also once heard that you should keep all of your original disks and format your PC every year or so... to 'clean out' the registry.
There _are_ registry cleaners, if you're looking to rid yourself of something specific.
good luck
Mike

I actually originally had a blue screen error which suggested I had a corrupt/missing or unwritable reg file. I couldn't boot up and I couldn't repair. I then installed XP Pro over the top of my original XP Pro. I initially lost my original personal settings/folders but I managed to recover most of them with "Getdataback for NTFS" However, with this second OS on top of the original, I lost access to my applications (however their files/folders still existed) since the newly created Registry had no Log(?) of them.
So now I wonder if when I delete the current new registry, will XP create new registry files that allow me to access my application properly? Or will it just be another set of "New" reg files that have no knowledge of the applications that are already installed on my HD? Confused? I am. :P

Yes, ur assumption is correct: "will it just be another set of "New" reg files that have no knowledge of the applications that are already installed on my HD"
It's when u install a prog that the registry entries are written - unfortunately, PC's aren't clever enuf yet to do that retropectively !!
