deleting incomplete music downloads

I use Winmx to download music. I have several incomplete files that I'd like to delete, however, when I try to delete them a message comes up saying "unable to delete "file name" because another person or program is using it. Close the program and try deleting again" My "download to" folder is different than my "shared" folder for Winmx so nobody is using the file. I don't have windows media player open or anything else that would be using the songs. Some of the incompletes I can delete but most I can't. What the heck is going on?

Well, this is either an easy one, or a hard one. If you have WinMX open while you try and delete them, it may not work. This is because WinMX may be scanning these files, or someone else maybe downloading them, but this is not important. The only thing I can think of is to close WinMX. If it doesnt work, post again and ill try and help :)

Thanks Samuel but that didn't help. I did, however, open winmx, click on "load incomplete", which brought all of them up, and was then able to delete most of them but still have about a half dozen stubborn ones that won't go away. I do know that I believe part of the problem is when I don't start getting the song, I right click on it and, instead of clicking delete, I click on "clear" which I now know doesn't get rid of them because I can bring them up when I click on "load incomplete". I guess I can hopefully prevent the problem in the future but those 6 or so left are irritating me!!! Thanks again!

Had a similar problem. Was able to delete the files next day when I turned 'puter on. Try a restart and see if that works for you.jw

I just now restarted computer thinking that would free things up but no luck! Can't understand it. May be an XP "thing" and may be Winmx "thing". That'll teach me for using Winmx! Thanks guys for the help!

are you sure you cant right click on the file in WinMX its self, and select 'delete file' ?? I delete them by 'loading incomplete' and selecting them fron the trancfers window.
Otherwise... what progremmes do you use to play the files???

Thanks so much everyone!! I can't praise this site enough. I have triumphed over the stupid music files that wouldn't go away! Soooooooooooo simple!! Swampy, I had tried to "load incomplete" in transfer window of Winmx and then right click and delete from there with no luck, BUT, was doing it while connected to the internet. So, before tearing my hair out I tried not connecting to ISP and then opened Winmx and "loaded Incomplete" and they all deleted! I am ever so happy! So here's another fix for people with the same problem. I had even tried safe mode and also what Sandman had said but even then it kept saying "another person or program is using the file". Thanks again everyone!
