Hi,

First see my computer info below. Now, I want to remove the default IDE driver ('Secondary BM Ultra DMA Channel') because it uses irq 14 which I want my new ide driver ('Primary IDE Channel') to use. I can't click on the driver and just delete it 'cause it's in use (nothing happens when i try).

Asus a7v133 (via chipset kt133a) motherboard, win xp pro (all upgrades)

cant do this from windows(as it would just come back after reboot), use the bios settings to disable it if you must.

do it in Safe Mode....choose "Update Driver" for the IDE controller itself (not the Primary or the Sec channel) then choose some other controller...(Standard or Microsoft's VIA driver)....it will also change your primary / sec channel...this works for me

Thanks for the advise so far. I've installed the 'VIA Bus Master Ultra ATA Controller' provided by VIA, version 5.1.2600.3014, I think it was from VIA's 4-in-1 v4.27 or their latest independet IDE Miniport for WinXP.

Although the bus master driver nor the two ide channels report no errors my two cdrom devices show up with that annoying yellow exclamation mark in front of them. So now I can't use my DVD/CD or my CD-RW. I need to backup some information to CDs before I throw XP out the window and install 2000 Pro again.

Also, when I try to upgrade to certain drivers using the 'Update Driver' options the computer gets stuck while copying the new files, probably has something to do with that they're in use or something. I've done this with admin login and in safe mode.
