Why won't XP let me delete net meeting, msn gaming zone & microsoft frontpage. I do not use these or ever will. & also why does XP insist on reverting folders to read only after i have unticked the read only box.

Hi Grimples,
Folders can't contain data themselves, they're just folder-objects, so they'll always be marked as read-only.
How are you trying to delete those programs?

To remove Netmeeting copy n paste this line into a RUN box and hit enter:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINDOWS\inf\msnetmtg.inf,NetMtg.Remove
Frontpage you should be able to remove through Add/Remove Programs as a component of MS Office.
The Msn gaming zone folder can only be removed by uninstalling Msn as far as I know, although there may be a reg tweak out there somewhere...........
The reason Xp keeps making these folders read only is because they are a part of it's code and it's trying to protect them.
I don't suffer from insanity, I embrace it.

I have uninstalled those programs, the folders are empty but they just won't delete. The read only folders which won't change are my own folders on my d drive.
ps. thanks for the quick replies

They delete in safemode but come back again when i reboot normal, i have tried a 1000 times to delete these folders as i hate to use anything by MS that i don't have to. There is some program which is running that cannot find that is recreating these folders. I have tried to download hijack this with no luck. The error message is: Cannot delete netmeeting: it is being used by another person or program.

Try creating new folders with the same names. You should be prompted ....'a folder xxxxx already exists....blah, blah'.
Replace the folders with new ones, and delete the new ones.

Follow Gemal's instructions HERE for the Netmeeting folder.
But he also quotes at the bottom "I still haven't found a way to remove the empty microsoft frontpage, MSN Gaming Zone and xerox directories."

I think Hooner may have hinted at the source of the problem: the programs you list are 'rather special', the system is probably recreating them automatically.
I would leave them there empty as they are, they won't interfere. A registry tweak may indeed offer a solution, but it's always a bit tricky. I'll check & post if I find one.
