Hi guys,
I have a bunch of unwanted boot sectors on my drive that no longer have OS's to boot into. Short of deleting partions and re formatting, is there a way i can delete these sectors and keep only the one i use?
Cheers

Unfortunately you cannot. Master Boot Record (MBR) are the very first sector on HD and floppy discs.

If your computer symptom is seeing other types of Operating Systems (Linux for example) along with Windows or different versions of Windows when the PC boots up and you know those OSes are no longer in the PC, the trouble shoot can be as simple as Boot.ini editing or more complex if non-Windows OSes are also involved.

yeah they are only windows OS's. However i have tried removing the unwanted ones from the boot.ini but when i restart they are still there and the boot.ini has restored itself to what it was before(?)
Any ideas?

I have not encountered the situation where an edited Boot.ini file reverts to the original.
I amn speculating when I ask whether you have Multiple Boot.ini files with the original unedited configuration along with the edited one in your Local Primary partition?
Run a search and see if that is the cause and deal with them as before leaving only one Boot.ini
If that is not the case as I speculated above, please post your Boot.ini here for comparison to a 'standard' system.

There are free programs on the Internet that will allow you to view and edit the boot sector(s) of drives. There are also free boot manager programs. Sorry - you will have to search for them.
If there is an operating system that you wish to still boot to, there are options. If Windows OS, you can boot into it and use fdisk /mbr. If Linux or other OS, there are similar utilities.Be sure you read up on them and understand the consequences and possible problems you may have.
Rule #1: Good Computers don't go down.
Rule #2: There is no such thing as a good computer.

Well in a strange proof of the fact that third times a charm, when i edited the ini again and reset, same thing it reverted back to the original. In my last ditch effort i tried again (same method as before) and it didn't revert back...
It might be because i completely shut the PC down rather than rebooting, anyway problem solved. Thanks for the help guys.

Good to know, it was not a mysterious problem to solve and simple Boot.ini editing could fix the issue.
I certainly thank you for posting back the outcome as till now, I was totally confused about the cause of edited boot.ini being reversed by no apparent initiating event!
