HELP!!!!! i bought laptop, had it up and running. Went to internet, downloaded Avast, scanned laptop, it found win32: Small-ied trojan. I deleted the trojan, shut down the laptop and went to bed. Started it up next morning and it won't get past the "Hit F2 to enter setup". F2, F8 both don't do anything. I was told that in deleting the trojan, I also deleted the part that runs it. It's a beautiful machine and I want to run it. Thanks for any and all help.

Do you have the restore discs or a XP cd. If you do, you can do an xp repair. Problem with deleting files like that is the virus embeds itself in a system file sometimes, and deleting it rather then to quarantine it makes the system unusable. Try a repair first.

I have xp cd but laptop starts up with the "press f2 to enter setup" then goes to the next "Control+F to enter fastbuild util" then bounces back to first screen without even noticing that the xp disc is in the laptop. I've tried F8, F2, DEL, just sits there humming at me.

Press the F2 to enter setup. This should take you to the BIOS screen. Change the boot order of the machine to boot from cdrom first. Save it and exit. Put the cd in the tray and watch for the boot from cd option. It will say press any key to boot from cd. You have 5 to 10 seconds to do this. Then you can enter the xp cd setup.

what do I do if F2 doesn't do a thing? I've heard that it may work to use a usb keyboard.

Does F2 work? If a usb keyboard doesn't work, you can try a ps2 if you have one. You hear a lot of things. Trick is to decide which is true:))

just tried ps2 keyboard, that doesn't work. None of the usual keys work.

It has three hds. One primary and two slaves. What would happen if I took out the primary drive?
