Comment:

i basicallly had dual boot of 2k and xp. i wanted only xp so to remove 2k and do a clean install of xp i used the "map" and "diskpart" commands to remove primary c: and d: partitions which had OS's on them since i didnt care about the data on the hdd. after i deleted the partiotions i put the xp cd in the cdrom restarted, and it gives me "boot failure, please put system disk and press enter".

any help...? boot sequence gets up from cdrom first so why is it giving me this ?

thanks

"map" is a new one on me except for netware.

So the drive is raw after diskpart. Would appear you aren't booting from the cdrom. Recheck your bios config of boot order.

If you have a ME boot diskette, which has cdrom support, you could boot that and then access your cdrom to start the install.

hd may be bad! do you hear a clicking noise or something funky from hd? if you can, make a recovery console kit with 6 floppies. go to www.microsoft.com and search for "windows xp startup disk" download to desktop and follow instructions to create. then after loaded, type "diskpart" and delete any partitions. hit escape and type "fixmbr" at command prompt. after that, esc to main menu again and select "install windows xp". GL!
