How did you go about deleting it? Did you just delete the icon or did you go to Control Panel > Add or Remove & actually uninstall it?

You may have only deleted an IE shortcut icon.
The original IE icon is in here --- C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder

OS ix XP Home Edition. It had been asking me to download IE8, I had IE7. I pushed the download button and all this nightmare began. When I checked in Add ad Remove I have IE7 but does not say how big the file is. I also tried system restore, but I could not find that function on this computer.
