Deleted folder keeps coming back

September 24, 2005 at 11:04:35
Specs: windows xp, ?

when i first got this computer I had 'my computer', 'network connections', 'explorer' and 'my documents' on the desktop. Then I got rid of the my documents and replaced it with a c:drive folder named leyla. (I also customized the desktop not to put 'my documents' there.) Then I transferred all my documents into the d:drive instead and put a short cut to that on the desktop. I erased the leyla folder so now I only want the my computer, network connections, explorer, d drive, and a folder I named games.
But for some freaking reason, the 'leyla' folder pops out of no where every few hours with only one empty folder inside (music). WHY??? I keep putting it in the trash can but it always comes back. It's really annoying me...
I even tried putting it in another folder just incase it shouldn't be erased but it ALWAYS comes back on the desktop. Does anyone know how to fix this?? Help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The "My Documents" folder is a desktop folder which is part of 2K and XP.

You can remove the icon from the desktop - or add it by using the following procedure:

Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}\ShellFolder
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: Attributes
Setting for Value Data: [Default = 0xf0400174 / Hidden = 0xf0500174]
Exit Registry and Reboot

hi thanks for replying.
ok i followed your steps right up to the {450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}. when i click on that, the only folder that opens is 'defaulticon.' although there is a 'shellfolder' when i click on {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}.
but i'm sorry... i'm not exactly sure what it is you're telling me to do. neither of them open, and i'm not sure what to modify.
if it's not too much trouble, can you explain the last part in a little more detail? i'm a little computer illiterate as you can see! thank you so much.

It seems to me you have renamed the default icon "My Documents", to "Leyla". This default icon normally points to C:\Documents and Settings/"current user"/My Documents. And I guess it still does in your case. Then you have moved the file contents to a new My Documents folder on you D: drive.
I suggest you rename the icon back to My Documents, and right click it, choose properties and change it to point to D:\My Documents.
If you don't want it to show on your desktop, download "TweakUI for XP", and change the setting to not show it on the desktop.

hi nigel
i downloaded tweakui (and i finally got rid of those shortcut arrows) but the folder still keeps popping up. i made sure that 'my documents' isn't apart of the desktop list.
but when i first started customizing, i didn't rename the documents folder leyla. i made a new folder, and then removed the my documents. so i don't think it's that. this stupid leyla folder keeps comin out of no where... when i right click it to find the path it just says desktop. wierd... do you know how to fix this using tweakui? thanks so much for your help you rule

Hi Leyla
I don't have anything but Defaulticon in the reg key Jennifer Sumn mentions either.
That you had renamed My Documents to Leyla was a conclusion I made from your post. It seemed most likely.

Does the Leyla folder show under Desktop in TweakUI? Have you searched the registry for "Leyla"?

no, the leyla folder doesn't show up in tweakui or the registry either. it's so wierd... it keeps recreating itself over and over. sometimes i'm not even able to delete it. like i'll press delete, and then it says that it can't. then i'll try again, and it works.
i even tried transferring all my games into the leyla folder, then renaming it leyla to games. but then ANOTHER leyla shows up 5 minutes later. should i take this to the big boys at acer? (my notebook brand).
thanks again for your help!
