Comment:

I deleted my autorun.inf files on drives D
and E because of the annoying virus that
opens every partition in a new window.
Now what happens is that whenever I am using
an Application (ex. word, photoshop, After
effects etc) and I try to save my work on
these partitions the respective application gets hanged up.
Is this related to autorun.inf or is sumthing
else wrong here?

I knew a woman who had a problem saving Word files and Norton was causing it. What else did you delete? Are you sure that the entire virus is gone?

Try anti malware from malwarebytes.org

Autorun.inf doesn't do anything on a hard drive. Its for cds. So your deleting them has no effect.

"opens every partition in a new window"
is not a virus but a explorer setting.

Go to tools/folder options. On the general tab/browse folders select open in same window.

Concerning your inability to save to d: or e: do a simple test. Can you copy a file from c: to d or e:? If not odds are you have made changes to the rights assignments to these drives.

You should also run chkdsk /r on d: and e: to make sure you have no file corruption.

'tis the season to be of good cheer. Wishing one and all happy times with family and friends.

I had this virus and it does do that for some odd reason, then it randomly wont let you access your hd without right clicking then explore.

If you still have this, go to folder options then click view hidden files and folders, then look for something called recycled or something (it looked missspelled to me) and there will be Boot.ini (or .something else i cant remember) and delete it.

I also deleted the autoruns (because of the virus) and i havent had a problem yet so hopefully it doesnt do anything negetive.
