Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone can help me. i have accidently deleted an ntldr file on my computer and now it wont start up. Ive created a bootbale floppy disk with the ntldr file on it, but i dont know how to copy it into DOS.

The long and short of it is that i cant use my reinstallation cd for windows to get it working again because my cd drive doesnt work, and it wont recognise my external cd drive.

How do i copy the ntldr file onto my computer so that i can get it working again.

Please help!

SO far i have got to the a:\> promtp and i am writing in:

copy ntldr c:

However its not working. it comes up with

invalid drive specification

What do i do????????

Thanks

As discussed a couple times per week in this forum, the 'invalid drive' is likely because the HD is formatted NTFS.

One way out is to put the HD in a working XP box as slave and copy NTLDR.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

that is because DOS cannot read/write to NTFS partitions without this little helper:

Also Windows XP has no MS-DOS sub-system.

Best to fix your optical drive and use the XP Recovery Console available from the XPCD

install ntfs4dos on another computer and create a boot floppy
