Startup windows on C. Use Windows Explorer to highlight folder D:\Windows. Hit DELETE

Then you may also want to update your boot.ini file to remove the dualboot reference.

Post back if you need help with that. there is plenty of info already written on this forum and elsewhere about editing the Boot.ini file

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

A person has to be careful how they answer you on this one because if we don't know a couple of things, we could give you the wrong answer and you might not be able to boot up again.
1.Do you have a choice when starting your computer of which XP install to boot(a black screen where you pick which system to boot)?
2.When you show your hidden and system files in Windows Explorer do you see Boot.ini, Bootsect.dos, Ntldr, Ntdetect.com in the root of c: or d:
3.As to understand how you had 2 os on the computer, I assume that you had one on C: then you installed another one on D: then you had a problem and you had to format and reinstall on C:. If this is true the boot files should be on C: and you should be able to either just delete all the folders and files on D: or go to disk management in computer management that is in administrative tools in the control panel when logged into the C: drive operating system and format or partition and format D:.

Just remember that any programs previously installed in D windows will have to be reinstalled in C. Anything on the D drive that isn't just your data files may be safely deleted

XPU,

Yeah I saw it and had enough sense to stay out of that mess.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
