c:\windows operating system. therefore i need to create a list of what i want to keep i.e. boot.ini c:\windows etc and then delete everything else. i have seen examples using forFile, but i can be sure that extension will be on the machine. does anyone have any ideas how i can create the exclude list and then do the delete?
Not too sure what you are trying to achieve, but you would be far
better just doing a clean reinstallation because working from the
top down, which you're trying to do, still leaves a lot of rubbish
and is a very time consuming process."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."
I agree, if you are trying to achieve a system that is 'clean' of everything except the operating system, if would be best to pop in the XP install disk, format, and reinstall completely clean. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
yep you're probably right, thanks
Sure they are right because deleting files will also leave a stack of registry entries kicking around too.
