I get the following message quite frequently - Windows - Delayed Write Failed
It is annoying to say the least because if you are downloading, the file you are attempting to download will become unuseable. Converting a avi file to a mpg file the same result will happen if this window "Delayed Write Failed appears". If anyone has a cure for this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with a single Maxtor 120 GB drive on a Promise ATA100 RAID controller. The drive is specified for a ATA133 controller, but I heard that it would run fine with a ATA100 controller.

The weird thing is that it only occurs after the computer has been running for hours, and then a reboot fixes it. Until after a few hours.

Is the drive defective? Is the problem with having the ATA133 drive on an ATA100 controller?

I ran into a similar problem and found it was caused by Roxio GoBack. If you have that installed, or any similar programs, try disabling them and see if it fixes them

I'm also having the same problem with my maxtor 60 gb. Every time I try to write something to it this error occurs.
I tried to turn off the caching of files in shared folder but it didn't help...

I was getting that exact same error as you all where, and I have a fix for this error.
what my problem was is that the jumper was placed in the reserved position and not slave, after putting the driver in slave position the problem disapeared!

I have this problem with my 40gb maxtor, it started when i had an OS on that harddrive, when the harddrive is used frequently this error starts, it shows up once in a while but then more and more and more until it got to the point where i couldnt run system configurations, so i installed a new OS on my other working harddrive, the error still poped up only when using my maxtor drive, it was corrupting any new files over time, but because my OS isnt on my maxtor drive anymore its being used much less, and the error slowly dissappeared, i havent had since December, the problem was when the maxtor drive is used alot the laser can't handle it because its DEFECTIVE... I read one solution here: http://www.edonkey2000.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=2865&forum=2

saying "The solution is to lower the transfer setting from UDMA to a non-UDMA (or even PIO) mode."

but i have no idea where to change this, on another site i read that in your BIOS, lower the transfer rate, i'm going to try that.

I would simply get my maxtor drive replaced but the guys at the store said "If we find the problem we will give you a new one", well id have to reinstall an OS on my maxtor and use the os until the error shows up then bring it in, but im lazy and im surving using my quantum fireball as my primary so ill just wait to my warranty almost runs out, then replace... but thats my problem.

Anyways i hope i have been helpful and keep this thread going so we can get more help, damn maxtor!!!

I get this message all the time on my W.D. 40 Gigs... after a few months that my XP has been working good - so I don't think its a jumper problem, one of my better ideas are about changing the cable, or perhaps cooling the hard drive with some in-bay fans... (but those are noisy)...

to Corosus: Tell the guys from the store that as long as the drive is under warranty - they should be able to replace it 'no questions asked', as you could go to quantum / maxtor / W.D. and replace it yourself - even if it was perfectly running.

(you can check that with W.D.!!!)
if youre luckier than I - you have the free space to b/u your stuff while replacing the H.D. ...

Good Luck,
Tal.

I FIXED MY PROBLEM...
I had cloned my 30gb HD on a new 60gb and forgotten to change the jumpers from slave to master on the new HD.

I changed it and now its running fine. I just did this and the system has been stable for about 10mins but the way I know its fine is I first got the problem while trying to install tribes2 (game) on my system. Tribes is a very big game. I got the error over 20 times and gave up out of frustration.
I also noticed that if downloading large files, I got the error too.

After the jumper switch, I have installed trubes (first try) and am downloading huge files with no errors.

I hope this endures and helps at least someone out there.

SEE YA!

Roxio products part of the problem??

I used to get this message myself. Then I removed "Roxio easy CD creator" and the problem dissapeared, now I can move and create large files without a problem.

I still get this message when I download large files from the internet, for example movies etc...
I dont know why, I´m on a great LAN network and I just use one 60GB HD...
