I want to install Nero InCD, but the installation program says I have first to deinstall Roxio DirectCd. In control panel there is Roxio Easy Media Creator, but not DirectCD.

How to proceed?

thanks

DirectCD is part and parcel of Roxio. Nero does not like opposition on the system so you need to remove the whole box and dice.

Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

Why do you want to lose DirectCD? IMO it is better than InCD. InCD requires you to use rewritable media, whereas DirectCD will work using CDR media. I find this feature to be very useful myself. I save created work to My Documents and then Save As to DirectCD. No reason to use a more expensive CDRW.

thx, in principle i wanted it to write DVD(RW)
on the other hand, I had no idea on how to use directcd, while i was used to use incd. On the other hand, i think windows Vista incorporates all those capabilities in the os , but I am still in xp

thanks

If you still insist on removing directcd and want to keep the rest of Easy CD creator you will need your Easy CD creator install cd to proceed further. Run the Easy CD Creator cd install and up comes a box that gives you three options. Modify,
Repair, and Remove CD Creator. Select modify and go to the directcd section. Select this feature will not be available. Click next to remove directcd.

"No compatible version could be found. Do you want to set the installation path of WinOnCD manually?"

I have used Roxio products for awile so it didn't register until now. You must have an older version of Roxio that may not be compatible with WinXP. Concerning my comments about how I use DirectCD I DID use DirectCD but am currently using Drag to Disk by Roxio, which is the replacement for DirectCD.
Do you know which version of DirectCD you have?

I am testing now drag-to-disc (or a similar name). Works fine but every time I eject the disk it take 2 minutes. The format is CDUDFRW and in the printer shop they have problems to properly read the whole disk.

I'will try CDBurnerXP Pro
thx

thanks

You can set the defaults to eject faster but if something happens to your OS installation the disk could become unreadable. I use a dedicated drive for drag to disk. That way you don't need to R & R disks all the time.
Try using CDR media. CDRW media compatibility is much spottier. Buy disks on sale for $10/15 per hundred.
You may be misusing ALL of these programs. They are packet writers. The design of these programs is to allow easy backup of created files. If you need to transport larger files then use Roxio Easy CD/ DVD creator or Nero. When opening those programs you have a few choices on what type of disk to create. Choose Data disk. Should be able to read on any Windows machine. Need to read on a non Windows machine, choose ISO disk.
