I ran the disk defragmenter this morning. I logged off, went to school, and I just got back home. I got on the net to balance my MS Excel check register with my online banking account. I just opened up the disk defrag program again to see if any of my files had become fragmented with the little use(10 Min. 2 programs, no alterations to my excel file)of my hard disk. to my total surprise my HD had actually become somewhat fragmented(based on the visual representation given by the disk defrag program). I don't get it. What caused the files to become fragmented? Or is my HD being visually misrepresented by the program.

thanks for all the help

For many reasons, your disk will never be completely defragmented. If you don't see fragmented files scattered all over your hard drive on the graphic representation, you are OK.

If you are like most people, your paging file is on your C: drive with the Windows operating system. The paging file is constantly being written to and altered by Windows, so immediate fragmentation is not unusual.

Salgoff-- I solved that one with a debit card on an account I control (I get the statement). He stays within budget, I deposit-- He spends too much too fast, I DON"T deposit.

Congratulations, JohnO. Wish I'd done that when mine were in school. They're older now, and still throw away their statements.

thanks for the help. unlike your children I am not a child... LOL . I am in the military and my school is probably a lot different than the schools your kids go to. And as far as your kids go, I am more like them than you realize. the reason I use my excel document and the internet banking, is because I throw my statements out also(he he)
