Defragment help

OS: XP Pro SP2
CPU/Ram: Pent 4 3.20 1Gb Ram

Hello All, in C:drive, Properties, Tools, the Defragment says, No Defragmentation tool is currently installed, and the Defrag Now Tab is in Grey.

I do not have a windows xp CD

How do i sort it please??

Go HERE For a better defragment program than the default one that comes with XP.

Lessons learnt the hard way are not easily forgotten.

This should start the defragment tool. First you'll have to be able to view hidden files so go to start>control panel>folder options>view tab> check the circle beside "show hidden files and folders">apply>ok.

Next navigate to C:\WINDOWS\INF\DFRG.INF and right click on it>click install. It may not be necessary but reboot the computer.

Go back and hide your hidden files.

Hello Justme and Jabuck, thanks for your reply Justme, i have loads on my computer for now, windows defrag will do unless i run into Problems, thanks.

Jabuck, sorted thanks, one little problem out of the way. I did get another fix from elsewhere, but, the one you gave, childs play to do, thanks again.

Hi, My defrag freezes on 1% so I followed Jabuch`s inst: start>control panel>folder options>view tab> check the circle beside "show hidden files and folders">apply>ok. When I click on 0k after apply my system returns to control panel so I am not able to complete inst. Any suggestions? Windows Xp system
