It depends on what you are looking for. The built-in defragmenter is rather limited in the files that it can defragment - it is unable to defragment directories on FATx partitions, the pagefile, the hibernate file, and the majority of the metadata on NTFS partitions. It also requires at least 15% free space, may take more than 1 pass, and may not consolidate free space (partition will re-fragment faster).
If you are not "happy" with the built-in defragmenter and its limitations, then there are other options available:
* PerfectDisk - www.raxco.com. Designed for Windows XP - Optimized
* Diskeeper - www.execsoft.com. Designed for Windows XP - Optimized
* SpeedDisk (part of SystemWorks) - www.symantec.com. Designed for Windows XP - Optimized
* O&O Defrag - www.oo-defrag.com
* Defrag Commander - www.winternals.com
* Ontracks FixIt Suite - www.ontrack.com
* Vopt - www.goldenbow.comAll of the above products vary in the amount of free space required (PerfectDisk will work with as little as 5% - the rest require anywhere from 10% to 20%), the ability to defragment the pagefile (DC, Vopt can't), the ability to defragment the hibernate file (DK, DC, Vopt can't), the ability to defragment directories on FATx partitions (DC, Vopt, O&O can't), the ability to deframent ALL of the NTFS metadata (only PerfectDisk can), the ability to consolidate free space (PerfectDisk by far does the best job), etc... All offer easier scheduling than the built-in defragmenter.
