My question relates to adding a program and continually adding updates. Which sequence should I follow:
1. Add update, reboot then defrag.
2. Add update, defrag and then reboot.
Thanks

IF you really want to do the 'best' job:

Add Update
Shut Down
Boot
Defrag

However otion 1. above is OK for most installations and then subsequent updates.

Occasionally an installation or update will require a restart, but in the main many do not request a restart of the PC. A plus for XP [NT Kernel].

You should run scandisk before you defrag.

However XP does not have scandisk, so go to run and type in chkdsk that is Xp's version of 'scandisk' Good luck
