When I try to run defrag it stops and can't run due to win/system32/1042 corruption. Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks a lot,

Alex

May be able to do it in Windows
Safe-Mode. This option uses a minimal
set of device drivers and services to
start Windows. Hold down F8 during boot.
Logon as Administrator.

You also should do the following before Defrag

Another thing I notice that is taking up space is
EVENT VIEWER logs. Go into EV then right click
each catagory, then click "Clear all events".

Also check all the files in
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
The Prefetch folder is quite large.
I have deleted all files there, even
Layout.ini, at times without problems.
It will rebuild itself over time.

Then do this to check for bad sectors on HDD:

It's a good idea to run scandisk before you defrag.
