I recently installed Intervideo Home Theater which was bundled with a CD I received with a Sony DVD Burner. I like the program but I am not pleased with the fact that it has changed all the default icons for JPEG, BMP, TIF, GIF, etc. to the Home Theater icon. I don't want to use that icon. When I installed Home Theater, it asked if I wanted these extension set as Home Theater default. I did not check any of the extensions I regulalary use and expected Itervideo Home Theater not to use them as a default. There is no place in Home Theater to reset default. Does anyone have an idea where I can go to set. I have reset icon defaults before but it has been so long I have forgot. Thanks in advance.

hornman03, Go into your Control Panel and open Folder Options. Under the File Types tab hilite one at a time JPEG, BMP, TIF, GIF and click the Advanced button then click the Change Icon button and choose whichever icon you want.

Tufenuf,
Thanks for your precise instructions. I like to feel like I am controlling this equipment and not the other way around. I have had other programs change setting on me before. It is nice to know you can change things back the way you want.

To Avoid having that problem When installing any software I always choose the Custom Install option if available and watch for windows that ask for the program to Make it the Default for all others and just Say NO.

Just to clarify, the instruction above will only change the icons, Home Theater will still be the default application when opening one of those file types. You can also change that association in the advanced section above.
Or an even easier way to change the application and icon associated with a file type is to right-click on one of the file types and select "Open With" and then select "Choose Program". Then select the program you want to use as the default and make sure the checkbox "always use the selected program..." is checked. That file type will now be associated with that program as the default and will use that program's file icon as well.
I also believe there is an option in TweakUI (Windows Power Tool) to reset the file association for specific file types to their Windows default.
