Comment:

last week I did my first system restore and later decided to run the scan disk and noticed for the first time that I had "debug dump files" 523,348 kb in there as well. what is that and is there a correlation with doing the system restore? can I check the box and have it cleaned up?

.dmp file are create when a system error occurs and the data relating to that error is written into the .dmp file for possible usage by a MS tech.

Type dump file in your XP's Help and Support Center search field to get more info on this file type.
