*Sigh*
Okay, a while ago I went against everything my brain was screaming and updated EVERYTHING Microsoft suggested as an update for Windows XP. One of those things was the (I think) .ASP server software. My wicked-fast Comcast connection has slowed to 56k capabilities, I now have to sign in to my PC when I didn't have to before, and I can't uninstall the damn thing. Can someone please help?

If I've left out information please request it. If you think I did something stupid in the first place, I'm way ahead of you there - I know :P

I want to remember the speed I'm paying for! Someone please help!

A very annoyed, but humbled, BL

Go to "Add or Remove Programs" and make certain you did not install the server software (may be under "Add/Remove Windows Components").

Sorry Per - knowing that I'm now helping endorse a politician doesn't exactly help my situation. Even if she's a democrat. (Let's face it, the line between Dems and Reps is distinctly blurred anyway now...) But back to business...

Per: I've restored the system so many times I can claim legitimate real estate on Mary Squires' web site. Is there another way? (If not, I'll give it a go).

Betty: My add/remove programs list is reduced to about 10 basic items, I assume thanks to this thing.

I have a crappy HP522n and can't afford a vid card right now, never mind a replacement PC. FTR: no XP disc - just a partitioned harddrive with a "backup" that allegedly can't be touched. Since installing ASP some of my backup files (my sound drivers for example) have simply disappeared.

Political advertising aside, I'm grateful for both your help!

Sincerely,

BL

Sorry for the outrage. Are familiar with editing the registry? If not I will return to help you.

I may have made another mistake...

I believe I'm trying to remove the .NET Framework, NOT .ASP. Although I feel a little foolish, I feel I should clarify so as not to waste too much more of you good peoples' time. So...

How do I uninstall the .NET Framework?
Any ideas?

(Feel free to start your replies with a mild insult. Fool is OK, but only things that won't upset the moderators...)

A blushing BL

Per: No probs on the outrage. I know you were referring to ASP when you mentioned the registry, but I've found the .NET entry there now. Any ideas what to do next?

I'm capable enough with the registry to follow instructions without you having to be accountable (I think), and am just wondering what entries to remove/alter. If your experience is with ASP and not NET, no probs.

I hope the moderator doesn't remove my post because of political lobbying. Or maybe it should be removed just so I can save face...

First search for any reference in file search for the offending files and delete them. Then Start-run-regedit- search for .net and delete the entries. Right click and BACKUP before deleting in case you need them back. delete the ones you want to. Suggest you do a restore in Start-programs-accessories-system tools-System restore-create system restore point BEFORE deleting anything. Then you can go back to before you did the edit. Good luck.

Thanks Per. I'm going to dive in and see what happens. Failing that, what system do you recommend buying for around $600, GFX and Sound cards to be added later...

BL,
Why not go looking for a proper XP CD and save yourself those $600 ?

BTW, check this: open a command prompt and type:
net users
Can you see the ASPNET UserAccount. Yeah? I was outraged too when I saw that one getting installed without being told! Maybe you're seeing a side-effect/bug from that one. The ASPNET account is probably responsible for the logon box reappearing.

Try clearing your Temporary Internet Files & cookies for that speed problem.

Per,
I can't believe your reaction to that political link. I've seen far worse links than that (i.e. links to pages with ActiveX installers, ...)
Betty's suggestion for fixing it, was legit, so why bother about sig-links that you don't like?

Yes SVG, But they do not belong here. If you accept them now look forward to a forum of personal opinions and political rhetoric. BELIEVE IT!!

Nope - still can't believe it !:)

I've seen posts that were way off-topic'er than a single sig-link (even posts by myself). And it never bothered me a bit, nor have they become widespread as a result. I'm glad to discuss anything on here with anyone, and I trust Kevin to kill the thread if deemed unwanted.

BTW I would've taken offense regardless of party-denomination, because I find it deeply disturbing that what is a party-cracy, is still referred to as a democracy.

IMO any political party is illegal if you want to call the system democratic. You elect representatives of the People, not representatives of some party. Integrity is 100% your own opinion, not 99% your own + 1% the party's opinion.

:)

SVG- I agree with all you say. BUT- You live in Belgium, which does not have the same political crap that happens here in the states. Example- Kerry and his bulls--- of 40 years ago of Vietnam. He is an , but that is beside the point. We have to live with the intrusive crap that goes on here but it doesn't belong on this forum. Can we agree on that?? Rgds.

Agreed,
In general, it doesn't belong here, but what I'm saying is: there was no political rhetoric - just a link to someone's personal website. Justin created that sig system to let people give some background info about themselves.

Putting 'Belgium' in my sig also links me to the perception of foreigners of my country(and you ain't seen political crap till you examined the belgian system :) ).

Even the GMT indicator could also be seen as a source of agitation because there are groups outthere that don't like Greenwich to be the center of the world...

Silly world, isn't it ??
:)

PS I hope nobody dislikes the smiley in my sig!

I have spent many a happy day and night in oestend and Brussels as an airline pilot flying there.{Please forgive the spelling. It's been a while.} I always felt that Belgium was one of the more hospitable countries of Europe. A beautiful country of great people. Not being patronizing, just honest. I have been every where in the the world and Belgium is one of my favorite places. Rgds.

And by the way, for those who don't know. GMT is Greenwich Mean Time, referring to Greenwich England. It's where the first clock was set to allow mariners to set their sextants to shoot the sun for a fix to determine their longitude on the earth to fix their position on the sea. A piece of history.

Point taken & approved -LOL- Sounds like you're still in the business of bridging Great Divides !:)

I imagine flying back home must have felt even better, though...
