I can probably safely say my pc needs repair. I'd be pleased if the problem can be rooted to save me some money :o).

I've been using the pc as normal, and shut down as normal.
On restarting, i cannot get past the beep. the screen comes on, the first bit of writing comes up (i'll describe), the pc gives the all clear beep, and thats how it stays. The screen is stops like this...........

Award modular bios v6.00PC (energy star)
GA-8S648 F2
Check system health: ok
Main processor: Intel Celeron(r)2.20 GHz(100x22)
<CPUID:0F27 Patch ID:0033>

press del to enter setup/q-flash F9 for xpress recovery

I have no choice but to switch off.
I'm not worried about data loss, it's all backed up. i have no idea how to reset bios, or how to update it, or flash it, so if it'll help, i'd need dummy instruction sorry.
Many thanks for any help.

is that all the messages from the screen? how long did you leave it on for? leave it on for a few minutes and let me know if you have any other error messages. Also, go into the bios and double check that your hard drive is being seen by the system. and chuck was right....what type of beeps do you get? 1 long 2 short? 1 shot 2 long etc....etc....

thanks

Does it start to detect disk drives?

Is the hdd light permantley on?

Try un-plugging the hard disk and see if it boots up?

I like to start with the easiest first; reset your BIOS back to default values by using the jumper on the mainboard or pull the silver battery off the mobo for 20", snap it back in and try to reboot. May just be a corrupted BIOS setting.

Thanks guys, i shall do the battery job and post back.

The beeps:
It's the single beep, that normally happens on powerup. no difference.

Bios:
I cannot get into bios at all. that screen is frozen like that.

Pressing f9: does nothing.

Thanks people
It doesn't move on to disk detection, it stays at that screen.
i left it on for 15 minutes, no change.

unplug everything from the motherboard (ide cables etc...) and remove all expansion cards and try to boot with ONLY the video plugged in. does that help?

i replaced the battery after unplugging everything, and it did the job, it has booted no problem.
It did tell me the cmos battery had failed, and said i inserted a new cpu lol, which i didn't, but none the less, it let me in bios, and i loaded the failsafe defaults, and success.

Many thanks for your, not only did you fix it for me, you saved me spending money lol.
Thanks again :o)
