Comment:

Lost video on 4700C & was told since it is integrated on the motherboard cannot be repaired/replaced
Can I do a direct cable trasfer from serial on 4700 to a USB on521 since there is no serial port? Need my files back from old hard drive!

I am assuming you don't want to replace the system board??

Is this the computer you refering to?

If this is a desktop, you can get a video card to add and then disable the non-working onboard video in the BIOS setup.

from the spec sheet:

'Intel 915G Express chipset that includes the first major industry bus change in the last ten years'

'One PCI Express x16 graphics card slot that provides up to four times the bandwidth of an 8x AGP graphics card'

so you can try a PCIe graphics card!

Or you can remove the hard drive and install it in the other PC, connecting it in place of or in addition to the CD drive on the same data cable. It will then show up as a drive in "My Computer" and you can transfer files to your heart's delight.
I surmise that you are a novice PC tinkerer, and this may sound difficult. But it is not.
