If the data is valuable, use a data recovery service before you mess up the D: partition any more.

If you want to maximize whatever chances you have at recovering data after hard drive or partition format, STOP using the HD altogether. The more you use it the greater the lesser chance you have at recovering anything whatever it may be.

You might want to consider using a data recovery application such as StompSoft's Recover Lost Data (http://www.stompsoft.com/recoverlostdata.html#) or similar application. This should allow you to get back some of the info that you lost. However, you should keep in mind that some of it is probably overwritten by now.

No. A quick format only delete the FAT (for FAT32 file system) or MFT (NTFS file system tables. Without the table accessible, it makes no difference as to improve the probability of data recovery. Even if you manage to recover files you will have to figure out the correct filenames.

The important thing as mentioned in another post stop using the drive as soon as possible. If a drive is formatted then overwritten with data.......your chances of getting the stuff back drops like big rock off a cliff.
The problem is data recovery is very time consuming and thus very expensive.
Most like a good chunk of your data is gone already.
If you take the drive to a state of the art recovery company they have the latest and great ability to recover the data.
The main thing is take the drive out!!!!!

There is absolutely no guarantee. It is always on a case-by-case basis.
