I use Second Copy 2000 and back up to CDRW disks via DirectCD.

I also remember some previous posts about the location of the backup software on the XP Home CD - try a search of this site.

Your xp cd has an excellent backup program that I use and recommend, it is from Veritas Corp and is very easy to use and is very reliable. I do a multilayer backup to a spare hard disk myself, as CDRW takes too much time when you get alot of information and this backup program works very well unattended.

Yes, WinXP Home does has a backup program. It must be manually installed from the WinXP Home CD. But,according to Microsoft's own instructons and information, the ASR (Automatic System Recovery) portion of the backup program is not compatible with WinXP home.
Guts, did you manually install the backup program for WinXP Home addition and it's working for you?
Thanks,
Barbara

Inquisitiv, I checked into Second Copy 2000, but I see nothing that states it's compatible with WinXP Home. Is it?
Thanks,
Barbara

THe only thing that does not work is automatic system restore. You have to do your system restore manually which is no big deal. IE: My main hard disk crashed, I installed a new hard disk, formatted it and installed windows xp and the backup utility and was able to recover my backed up hard disk information app 6 gigs in under 11 minutes really no big deal

I use it on Pro and my mum uses it on Home. The only problem I have experienced is that using the command line switches to run things doesn't work (locks program with multiple error messages) even in compatability mode.

It's also not a traditional backup program and takes a little longer to set up.

Once done though it is fine.
