Hey!
I have a problem. I purchased an I-Buddie A900 (LapTop) and the following has happened within the past two months.
1. DVD-ROM drive is loose. When trying to watch a DVD, if the computer is touched or the drive is moved then the DVD stops and PowerDVD, Media Player, basically any type of movie/video clips go dark.
2. After we got the computer back, unfixed and the rim of the computer melted, my CMOS battery is low. Every time the computer is unplugged I have to reset the time, none of my internet settings are remembered etc....
3. Two nights ago my brother was playing Caesar3 and he turned off & unplugged the computer. When I tried to use it less than 12 hours later the screen was black with mulitcoloured lines going vertically. The computer booted, and I was able to log onto XP, I could tell by the music, but I could not see anything. It was just black with thin colourful vertical lines. My DVD-ROM is a QSI DVD-ROM SDR081.
My display adapter is a SiS 630/730.
I am running XP Home OE.
My processor is a Via Samuel 2.
I have a TFT 15.1" LCD monitor.
If anyone has any idea what the hell is going on PLEASE e-mail me or reply to this message. Thanks a bunch.Stina

Take it back. In ref to the cmos battery and the line on the screen: I had the same sort of problems with my laptop after a few weeks of buying it when i took it back they found that it was a faulty motherboard causing the problem with the screen and battery they changed it for a new one and i have not had a problem since.

No offence but this isn't really an XP problem, this is a manufacturer problem, these are the reasons I will NOT buy an I-buddy or E-machine, you get what you pay for! and in this case you got shafted, I would take it back and go to town on them, these companies think they can get away with all this crap, well don't let them! take it back and threaten them will all sorts of crap, they WILL either exchange it or replace it in my experience, sorry couldn't help more.
Happy new year

Not sure how long you have had it but.. Most places have lemon laws for junk items. The rim is melted? From what? Something is very wrong if the case is melting. Unless you had the laptop in an oven TAKE IT BACK! Why should you be trying to repair there problem?
In my experience with electronics.. If you start having problems right away the unit is junk and the whole time you own it you have nothing but problems.
With laptops we have no choice but to buy OEM's but never ever buy another off the shelf desktop again. HP compaq and even gateway and dell are building nothing but junk boxes these days. Even the high end machines suck and you can build a much better system for less money.
If they wont let you return it contact all the consumer rights sites.. BBB etc. and file a complaint.

What you can do depends on where you live. It sounds like youre being duped. Unfortunately with a laptop, you cant just go buy a new mainboard or parts down at your local computer store. If the item came back physically damaged though, demand they replace it or provide a full refund. You are at least entitled to a new case, free of charges. If you live in the USA, contact your state's Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau if they continue to give you the runaround. Be persistant.
BTW, if the screen worked before they touched it, it could be a simple cable connection, but they touched it, so they are responsible for fixing it. Good Luck.
