Comment:

My e and d drive disappeared.....The lights blink on the e drive and i can press eject and have it work but it doesnt respond.

The e and d drive aren't listed in device manager or my computer.

I have 39484 mb

total paging size for all drives:
Minimum allowed: 2mb
recommended: 189mb

I have updated drivers...i update my comp through windows update all the time.

I don't know what could be the problem.

when this first happened they would reappear again out of nowhere but it would make a wierd noise and the comp would freeze...now they don't even appear anymore.

I have a cd writer/dvd drive and an e drive.

I have a toshiba dvd-rom sd-m1502.

I have gone to the site but can't seem to get any help.

I have tried disconecting cables and reconnecting.
When i enter the bios (pheonix)

none of the drives are listed it just says none.

please e-mail me if u can help.

I got windows xp last year and i havent had a problem til now.

thanks :)

make sure that one of them is a master, and one is a slave..or both on cable select (i think, not sure about that option)

also does it detect the drives in bios...if it doesnt' then there might be a problem with the connection..try new ide cables

when did this start happening? did you install new ram, or do some hardware change??

Make sure Auto detect is selected in Bios for your secondary devices (CD roms). But as ImageWorkz says it points to an IDE cable problem.

Your IDE cables are the cables that go between your CD-ROM,DVD, CD-RW etc to your mother board as secondary IDE. Your primary IDE cable is the 40 or 80 pin flat cable that goes between your hard drives and mother board. Florian-- click on devices with question marks and click on remove. Restart computer and see if operating system reinstalles CD,s If not you shoukd look at replacing the cable on secondary IDE. LOL

You might want to take a look at your Bios, go to BOOT tab and make sure that you have the atapi-cdrom enabled as your one of your boot devices

Yep same prob. here...but I had just re-installed Roxio to burn with but I also had Nero...Mabe there is a conflict or my computer just doesnt like Roxio anymore...I did scan for viruses and I did have one but it was a very mild one...Js.Trojan.Windowbomb, check for that and uninstall any burning software you have and make sure to use only one program to burn w/. Thats my two cents hope it helps.
