D & E drives disappear- please help

CPU/Ram: 512mb

i updated from 98 to xp. now my d & e drives won't work. they do not appear under the control panel. just the c drive appears. if i shut down, unplug , wait and restart they will come back... briefly. drives won't work-drawers won't open. any help would be appreciated.

What are the drives? If they are cd-rom and cdrw then i would suspect you need to reinstall updated drivers. Xp is very funny about drivers.also u mentioned "unplugged" are they usb. really would be more helpful if you would be a little bit more forth comeing about What YOU HAVE!!!!!!

If the drawers wont open, it is not a driver problem. Open your case and check that all leads going to, and from, your drives are firmly plugged in at either end.

It could also be that drives D: and E: are of FAT type file system and need to be converted to NTSF.

Your drives might be too old for xp.
