Hello all!

I have been experiencing this issue also. The following are my pertinent system specs.

Main rig: Gigabyte 7-vxrp 333mhz, 1gig Corsair CAS2 PC2700, Athlon XP2000+, Leadtek Geforce4 TI4600 Ultra

Secondary rig: Soyo K7-Dragon+ 266mhz, 1gig Kingston CAS2.5 PC2100, Athlon XP2000+, Visiontek TI4600

First off, I have been experiencing the same problems as all of you. The Soyo rig was my main, until approx a month ago. After having so many problems, I decided to upgrade and move the Soyo etc to another box.

Anyway, I only experienced the problem of c:\windows\system32\config\system --after I put the Visiontek G4 in. I had a Leadtek G2 64mb until then, and did not have any problems.

The only way I can get this system to run without corruption is to set the memory at 100mhz. This doesn't really help me much ,as the system is a 266mhz fsb system. However, it was a work-around until I could talk to Visiontek.

I spoke with Visiontek, and they were very helpful in working with me. We could not, however, solve the problem. They even replaced my card with a new one, that had a newer bios on it. We tried, drivers, bios upgrade, and settings till the cows came home. Even after replacing the vid card, I still have the same problem.

I don't have any problems with my Gigabyte setup corrupting files. I do however have problems running 3dMark 2001se at 4x agp. It will crash me out to windows. If I run it at 2x agp i'm fine. I've tried pretty much every >Detonator< driver, and quite frankly, I'm tired of loading them.

I don't know if this will help or just add to the pile, but I wanted to tell you my story. I don't know what the problem is, but i'm going to have my Soyo board replaced for another Gigabyte board, and most likely I will ask Visiontek to refund my money so that I can go with another Leadtek card.

I have implemented the short version of MS fix, of copying the system file from the repair dir, as stated on one of these threads. That is a decent work-around, but not a solution as many of you have said.

I hope someone will listen to our problems and take this up with the people that need to fix it. I can tell you that I get this problem or similar, in all OS's. 95, 98, 98se, ME, 2K Pro, XP Home, XP Pro.

Thanks for listening!

have you overclocked the cpu? you say you get the error, but not how you actually get it, does a message pop up or what. try taking out some of the memory and moving them around in different dems run 512 or 256. maybe the memory you have is corrupt, you can get some weird errors. try a program called memtest86, and also theres one called gold memory, or something like that.

Is the processor overclocked???
If it is, you can get file corrupt errors
if there is not enough voltage to the
AMD Athlon processor. I suggest to raise
the Vcore value, if at 1.75V to 1.85V.

Mine is not overclocked. My gigabyte board 7vrx has a 7500 radion video card with 64mb of ddr . my asus a7v333 has a Ge force 2 400mx with 128mb this is the system I get the same error as drak does maybe these chipsets wont support 128 mb video cards. The store where I bought all the parts at has offered to trouble shoot it for free thinking I may have got some bad ram 512 ddr sdram pc2100 . I took it up there and left it for them if it turns out to be the video I will keep everyone posted

No, my system is not overclocked. I've never overclocked any of my equip. I've tried 2 different sets of memory. I tried Centon pc 2100, and Kingston pc 2100. I also tried different slots, and 512, instead of 1 gig. I get no messages that pop up. All I get is a corrupt registry if I set my memory to 133. It may not happen right away, it may run for a couple days, especially if I only use windows apps >2D< If I run a game, it will lock up. I will reboot the pc, and I will get that error. When I first got the Soyo setup, the visiontek card ended up being on backorder. I put it together anyway, and used my Geforce2 64mb Leadtek in it. It ran sweet at full 266mhz fsb, 133mhz ddr, the whole nine yards. As I said, I didn't have the problem crop up until I put the g4 in. I had it in for about 20mins, and was trying some of the new G4 demos, when it locked up. I thought well, the cd is bad, or the demos just plain bite. However, when I rebooted I saw the error for the first time. Also it will run fine at failsafe defaults in bios.

I also cannot run in agp 4x, only 2x. Before I moved the Soyo setup to a different box, and put the Gigabyte setup in it's place, I was using an Enermax 431w psu. Now in the new box i'm using a 300w. It does fine, but not at 4x, or 133mhz memory setting. All my pc's have Maxtor 80gig ATA133 drives.

I will try those proggies Mooseboy, maybe I will get some insight as to why this is happening. There are far too many variables it seems, considering the amount of posts I've seen in many forums.

Thanks guys! I hope we can get a handle on just what's causing this.

This error came up on my rig this morning, and I've mad eno harware changes at5 all recently. The last change I've made is the addition of an Inno3D GF3 Ti200 back in April (from a GF2 MX400). This really is a pain. I don't wanna have to reformat, and the PC's still under warranty, but I may still lose data. I've tried changing the FSB but to no effect.

Full specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
256Mb DDR266 RAM - can't remember manufacturer
PCChips M830L Mobo
Inno3D GF3 Ti200 (128Mb)
Maxtor 40Gb HDD
Win XP Home

And no, I haven't o/c'd either.
