Hello again
When I try to load Canon Zoombrowser and get pictures from my camera which already was in my system and working I got this message

c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt
"the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications"

I think I need a copy of the following files, as I think they are damaged or have viruses, these are in the system 32 folder and also in 1386 folder

Autoexec.nt
Config.nt
Command.com

I tied copying these from the CD WIN XP but didn’t help and the zoombrowser still didn’t work

I have Googled and Googled but can’t seem to get the correct way of fixing my problem

Any body and idea how to repair this damaged files????

Many thanks
Becks Bear

Have you scanned for spy and adware? Also, make sure your AV is up-to-date and scan for viruses.

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL!

HI,

A friend has Canon SW on XP and it seems not very well behaved. As soon as he gets about 350 JPGs on the HD, it just quits.

I didn't know there was an autoexec.nt on the drive. [w2k] There is. I looked at it and it says that"

REM AUTOEXEC.BAT is not used to initialize the MS-DOS environment.
REM AUTOEXEC.NT is used to initialize the MS-DOS environment unless a
REM different startup file is specified in an application's PIF.

So you gotta wonder why the Canon SW is even interested in the autoexec.nt file.

If it really IS interested, it's probably not finding it in c:\windows\system32 because it's in C:\WINNT\system32

Let us know.

C:\WINNT\system32 ?

On the workstations running Pro and the standalone Home, they are located in

c:\windows\system32

and

c:\windows\repair

Read with interest all above, but my error message first came in when I was using old W95 software in the form of a card game and scrabbletype game, and thus I thought they were to blame. It is now coming up as soon as I logon. I did see somewhere that partitioning a separate MS DOS might be good idea, but this would not be worthwhile if all of you are getting this message with other hardware and software. Am completely up to date with my Sophos Virus checking. Help please....

The reason why this error pops up, is that either autoexec.nt, config.nt, or command.com (command.co not really sure about this one)are corrupted, or have been damaged. i have fixed the problem, and i am able to run the 16-bit program, but the problem comes back. so i supppose it may be a worm that is corrupting my autoexec.nt file. anyways, you can reinstall windows XP and it'll fix the problem. if any of you can help me then please do. i hope this works.

We had a similar problem with Spybot and an older program that was DOS-based. Everytime we ran Spybot, it deleted the autoexece.nt file. Once the file was recreated, the DOS program ran fine until the next Spybot scan. Possible solutions:
1. The paid version of Spybot allows you to deselect a file from all future scans.
2. Recreate autoexec.nt from directions in MS Knowledge Base and keep on floppy. Copy and paste after each spybot scan.
Hope that helps!
