Just recently I begun encountering usuual file 'moving' issues involving two types of error prompts ('directory not empty' and 'can not').

The 'directory not empty' prompts stop the pasting of the group of chosen folders (having already cut-pasted some) midway thru pasting the group.

In the 'can not' failures at cut-pasting, again even though pasting has succeeded, here once more there're always a folder/folders that failed to cut, did paste, and yet un-cut portions of the folder (usually one or two files in the folder) remain in the original directory.

Notable to some degree is that the 'directory not empty' instances, I expected that due to those files relating to a protected program's (later downloaded) animation files, so likely the cut issue relates to registry and I'll not be able to remove (or even delete) all of them until I uninstall the program.

Even considered the possibility that maybe those files were seen more or less as 'in use' (being on a playlist or whatever), but the program wasn't even running.

Also note I've repeatedly re-installed this program first on HD, then EHD, pen drive and lastly on a memory stick mostly in an attempt to get it off my laptop (per say) and onto another drive, but it seems the 2GB's of it won't remove from the laptop even tho' I got it to start up/run using other files on other drives.

Since both types of errors just began occurring, I'm guessing somethings up with the system.

Again to reiterate, in both error cases, even though pasting has succeeded, there's always folder(s) that failed to cut, but they did paste, and those folder(s) with un-cut files are always just part of the original contents with nothing unusal about their format or properties (ie; these are simply backup vob and mpg files) and re-booting didn't help in either cases.

I have seen a disk source system event alerts (An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation) but I think that's a result of my unplugging the wrong EHD, plus the cut issue didn't happen at that time.

I'm pretty sure the only other system events I'm experiencing are not related to these cut-paste issues, but I'll toss it in here for the heck of it.

Ref. system event errors and alerts for HTTP source (Unable to bind to the underlying transport for 0.0.0.0:2869. The IP Listen-Only list may contain a reference to an interface which may not exist on this machine) and that port 2869 is something I've been waiting for my AV prog to squalk it again so as to then use netstat -a0 to get me stsrted on ID'g the program responsible for trying touse that port.

Only other issue deals with W32Time source (The time service has not been able to synchronize the system time for 49152 seconds because none of the time providers has been able to provide a usable time stamp. The system clock is unsynchronized). Something to do with my using nist.gov's time service, yet to resolve, but pc's time seems unaffected.

can you tell what you are trying to copy, and if youve had messages saying that there are hidden files. and what types of files you are trying to copy. If they are dll. files it can be harder. And are you trying to copy program files, that have already been copied or have some parts deleted or ever deleted from any where else

Thanks for replying.

Easy to ahve missed my mentioning they're animation files.

Virtuagirl2 is the program and sortof odd why some of the animation files (various runway models) don't cut while they do paste, then another attempt, the 'straglers' do cut & paste.

As for the 2_GB's of files I can't delete, yes the program does have dll's and other such usual files.

I was hoping there to avoid uninstalling the prog as mentioned, but if so, so be it.

well there will probaly be hidden files as well, and if yourve tried to delete any thing such as a dll. you will not be able to copy and paste properly. you will be better unistall the program, if possible, then reisntall it were you want it. i dont think you are actualy alowed to cut a dll. because it will be a program. copy your 'hot animated files! wohoo!' and paste them were you want them, and then delete them from werwe they were orginally. You will now have a fresh copy of your program. you will always be better of going 'control a' to select everything, this will tell you, if yourve got hidden files or not, and if not, paste it into were you want it, and then unisntall the program before deleting anything. hope this helps.

Thank you for replying.

My conclusions exactly.

Also, no connections wth virtuagirl/totem entertainment, and my interest in it is purely for historical research.

Thanks for replying, but seems you had someone else's post in mind as your reply doesn't seem to have anything to do with my post or our tack since posting.

An internet connection or IP has nothing to do with deleting files. Nor even uninstalling a program. No?

yes sorry i got a bit confused by too many different comments! but i think what your problem is is that have you ever cutted the file to somewhere else, what it usally means is that some of the directory is somewhere else, it is hard to redo your steeps to resolve it, espically if you defrag your computer the best thing you could do is download the program freeshly, and then install it into a freesh directory,

what i did to get around the problem is putting a file next to what you are trying to copy and then copy them both into a different dir. but that is a gap in sp1 so sp2 may stop you.

Wish I could recall for sure, but it seems I think/must have installed the 'program' first on the laoptop, then uninstalled it, re-installed it on a pen drive (as 'it' no longer lists in the laptop's add-rem progs list.

But during those things, the prog's vid files were left on the laptop and it seems this's why I can't delete them.

Maybe running the prog off the pen drive, might allows me to move the files to the pen drive.

If all else fails, in that those vid files in their original file storage location (on the laptop) are the only ones refusing to delete, since at least I've copied these vid files elsewhere on the laptop, maybe installing the prog back on the laptop (really don't want that) might allow me to delete the vid files?

If neither moving/copying them to the pen drive and/or installing the prog on the laptop doesn't allow me to delete those files, I don't know what will.

Kill bit? I think I read about that tool and it might apply here.
