I am trying to make a custom XP CD and would like to know what drivers, patches, and updates would be good to integrate in to it. I’m using mLite and RyanVM.
I am a computer guy

Use the drivers that are required for your rig.
Good luck trying to get all the updates working.
I just make a CD like that last week. I used every update available for WinXP32 post SP2 Plus I was integrating SP2. Using nlite showed many messages for updates that weren't for the version of Windows I had. Not sure what that was about as the original CD is the same as what was installed on the computer I was using to create the disk.
Anyway, the point is you may not be able to cover all the bases. One important issue is SATA drivers. I am not sure if or how you could include them in the slipstream.
I did try to incorporate all updates thru Aug 2007.
The biggy is SP2, if you don't have it on the original CD. Just doing that makes the CD very generic. You could then have drivers and specific hardware related patches on a separate CD to avoid the need to download.

You can slipstream SP2 using the method described here. However, you do need an original retail XP Disc. You cannot do it with an OEM CD from the likes of Dell, HP etc.
Once you have SP2 slipstreamed, then you can insert the post SP2 updates. Trying to do it all in one go and you can get yourself into a hell of a mess.

I agree with not doing the SP2 and the updates together.
I failed to mention that, but I did do the SP2 first and then used that as the starting file.

I have used nlite lots of times. I use my recovery cd from Fujitsu Siemens. It is not necessarily true that you need an original windows disk to use nlite.
This is what I do, Using something like double driver or driver max, save your drivers to a folder.
I have used belarc to see what hotfixes are already on my pc, then, (i know it's a pain) download the other updates & save for future use. If you use ryans update pack, that will save a lot of download time.
If you are looking for add ons. Go to the nlite forum for help with that.Using virtual pc, install the iso you have created, that way, you can test it before doing an install proper. Try creating the iso one step at a time.
Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.
