custom PC freezes...constantly!

OS: windows XP home
CPU/Ram: P4 2,8/ 1 gb PC3200

I built a PC for my friend, but even when installing windows...it just freezes! I eventually got it installed but still freezes.
I believe it is a hardware problem...maybe drivers but not sure. Bios is updated and correct, voltage and temp are okay. CMOS settings are correct with reading CPU and bus info. I have tested the ram in another PC and is fine and the ram in my system locks up when tested in this custom PC.

specs:
P4 2.8 800 fsb
intel D865PERL mobo
1 Gb ultra PC3200 ram
raedon 9800 pro vid card
western Dig 160 gig HDD

Please let me know what you think!

You have a big HDD. i hope you using NTFS file system. Other than you need to have all the updates especially the service pak 1

yes I am using NTFS...windows Xp has to have that file system. Also, the home edition he bought came with service pack 1....must be something else

I had a major problem like that from an NVIDIA video card, replaced it with an ATI, problem went away, still running with it, have not tried another NVIDIA card,

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be the video card
