I recently installed a G-Force NVIDIA 6600 and started having problems with my cursor getting frozen on my screen. I can still use the mouse to close and open things, i just cant see the cursor moving anywhere. I've tried running virus scans and updating which I thought were the latest drivers. It happens at random times and I can't seem to pick up on a pattern. I've also deleted programs that I thought might be causing the problem with no luck.
any help is greatly appreciated

I have the same problem on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1420 laptop. Mouse is a typical optical wheel on USB.
When mouse locks up I can still use touch-pad. Mouse was fine for nearly a year. Recently installed software for Epson R340 printer, problem seemed to occur shortly after.
Have tried swapping mouse with MS optical wheel mouse from desktop PC. Both mice worked fine for 3 weeks so swapped them back again. Guess what - problem is back...
Have tried changing mouse drivers - no luck
Seems to me it is either a USB conflict or graphics corruption, USB seems more likely
Have turned off Epson Status Monitor too, this doesn't help either.Dont wanna use MS mouse on laptop, Laptop mouse is a mini-mouse. I have v limited space on desk for normal size mouse. Also, mini-mouse ideal for travelling.
All drivers up to date and no other reported errors.
USB 1st controller on IRQ 10.
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Series on IRQ 10 too.
But been fine from 7/12/04 thro' to 15/11/05!!!Will pursue USB route and let you know.
BTW Used to have long hair - now running out of hair to pull... Aaargh!

i've tried reinstalling drivers...restoring my computer to a previous state when the problems weren't occuring...and i'm still having the same problem.
there is no pattern to the freezing, no particular programs that seem to freeze the cursor...what else could it be?

when this happens on my laptop I switch "taskmanager" off (ctrl-alt-del) and there is silence for a while - but don't ask my why
cheers kauhl

Same problem, TOTALLY SOLVED by uninstalling Nvidia driver, and installing 78.01 nvidia drivers. Do a search for those since, oddly enough, Nvidia doen't keep old drivers on their web site. (I guess they feel that thier drivers are always perfect).
Turning on mouse trails is a temporary work around, good luck turning on mousetrails (mouse/pointer options/)with no mouse arrow!
I'm running a Nvidia geforce 6600 card made by Chaintech. Mouse is not likely to be the culprit, Ive tried different mice and mouse drivers.
Seems to be a somewhat rare bug since nothing is mentioned on Nvidas knowledge base.
Good luck,
-Randy

from Dell-Service (very competent) I got the advice - turning trackstick (under control panel - mouse) "off" - you see, just the contrary of "turning trail" on -
as always, truth and lie are lying tight together
cheers kauhl
