My buddy's having trouble with Norton Internet Security 2006, and trying to go through Symantec is like pulling teeth. (I told him to use CA, but that's another story) Apparently, the main process started when the machine (Windows XP) starts up (nmain.exe) freezes up, cannot be opened or closed, and denies certain internet activities - checking email, while letting most others through. When he logs off, and logs back on (logging off the user account, not shutting down) NIS returns to normal, and internet activity is restored. We think it has something to do with another process started via a LocalMachine registry key, but not listed in the CurrentUser registry keys. Any ideas on the solutions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated... any help... at all... about anything... please?

I found lots of helpful information on Symantec's website. Just go into Support and select the proper software. Enter the nmain.exe stops responding text and you'll get lots of hits.

LocalMachine keys are valid for all users, while CurrectUser keys are valid only for the currently logged on user.
