I love you GUYS!

Yes it is August 2003 now about 2 years after this is first reported, and it seems that it is coming back, and my brand new $5000 Vaio got hijacked by these BLACKMAILING companies that are asking for ransom to stop the popup messages. I have for 3 weeks been trying like mad to find solutions, going into the deep recesses of my system.

The solution:

1. Start
2. Control Panel
3. Performance and Maintenance
4. Administrative tools
5. Services (icon)
6. SCROLL down to 'messenger'
7. Double click 'messenger'
8. Click 'STOP' AND>>>>
9. In the drop down go to DISABLE and the APPLY

Youre done.

The turn off messenger is the trick. you guys rule.

Alan

Bytheway the company that is doing this is "www.EndAds.com" trying to get $25 US for ransom.

Is there anything we can do to sue companies like this one for damages?
I have incured hours of lost time tring to fix this jerks new idea to make money. When im doing computer related work i can make as much as 40 dollars an hour, so I figure I should be compensated for this illegal hack into my computer. I don't want this guy to profit from others misery, If he made anything off this he should have to give it up. Im thinking class action lawsuit. Give me an e-mail if you have a lawyer in the family who does this kind of thing and wants to go after it ,Im in!
Thanks to everyone who posted the solution, I appreciate it.

OMG,
Got this same thing going on too. I played pc detective for 6 hours because it interupted a music recording i was doing. This guy owes me big. I dont know if what he did was illegal. If it is, I want in on the repercusions. Maybe we can hang him from his toes and beat him like one of those paper animal things with candy inside.
