I reinstalled windows and then went to windows update. It said that I needed to reinstall the winxp service pack. While it was installing I received this error message
setup could not verify the intergrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer
I went to help/support and did the following. I checked in the admis. tools and saw that the cryptographic service is started. It then said that if that fails to do the following:
run, type cmd, type the following commands and enter after each one.
net stop cryptsvc (enter)
it said that the service stopped successfullyren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2 (enter)
this said that access was denied. What do I need to do so the sp1 update can continue?
Can someone please assist me?
Thanking you in advance,
Nanette
I don't know if this could be the problem...after I reinstalled windows it asked me to register with MS. I said I would do it later. Could this be the problem? If it is, what do I need to do? I registered with MS when I first got this computer. Can I reregister?
thanx

You will have to register before updating.SP1 has new antipiracy built in and it must see a legit copy of XP before installing. Just do what you did last time.

Thank you!
I have the problem fixed. I didnt register. I had to add a line to the run/cmd prompt. I now have the SP1 update successfully installed and also have AOL 7.0 running again.
Thank you to all who helped me.
Nanette
