For various reasons, I configured my machine to require a disk to be in the floppy drive during startup in order to boot. Well, I have been using a USB floppy drive to boot from for seveeral months. One evening, I booted up the PC to find that none of my USB devices(I have 8 ports, 6 devices) had any functionality in windows; my usb keyboard worked in BIOS, but just not in XP. So that essentially means that I cannot access any of my system. windows searches for the USB floppy drive, and when it can't find it, issues "The wrong disk is in drive A:. Please insert the correct disk" message. I tried attaching a standard floppy drive on the motherboard, but windows won't recognize that(same error as before.) Currently I am unable to access my system at all, and I have many important documents that I need to keep that are ont eh machine.

I wonder if clearing your CMOS will let the regular floppy work?

Not a bad thought. How about setting the machine to boot from the CD in the BIOS and then running a repair install?
I would 86 the USB boot sequence if you do get it to work. Pre boot USB functionality is limited at best.

I finally got it to work. It turned out that I had configured the bios to recognize a USB floppy only. I set the bios to boot from a standard floppy drive, and this apparently made windows recognize that floppy drive as A:.
