I have just been using partition magic to repartition my laptop. The computer went so far with this task and then attempted to restart. Unfortunately it never did. Now the P.C. cannot restart in any mode at all. Worst still is that I have no partition magic floppy's to rescue it.
All I have is the Window XP CD, through past experience I won't put that anywhere near the machine unless told otherwise. Please help if you can, thanks, Dave.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Another user blown out by third party partitioning s/ware, really bad move, but I guess you know that now! don't do it in the future! use FDISK supplied with Xp.
The only thing I can suggest, is to use that loathed Xp CD to recover your install..........
Go into your BIOS and set CDROM as 1st Boot Device, save settings and exit. Put your Xp CD in the drive and reboot.
Once at the Xp setup screen make as if you were doing a fresh install, then select the partition/drive Xp is ALREADY on, and hit Enter. You will then see a message along the lines of "Xp already detected on this partition, would you like to repair?"Yes, you would!
If you have problems booting from the Xp CD, you need to d/load the 6 Xp startup floppies from Microsoft.com (make sure you get the right set, Pro or Home) and use those for the initial boot process. They do the same thing, take you to the Xp setup screen where you will be then asked to insert your CD.
