I just bought a Dell Dimension 8200 from a friend, and it has the "SBLive! Value" card in it. I have a setup to use the green and black connections on the back of the card. However, I can't seem to get the rear speakers to work.
Now, I've used a regular version of this card before, and I've heard bad reviews of the version that Dell put in the 8200. I know that to get the rear output to work on the card, you need the Surround Mixer. However, I didn't get a software CD with this system containing the Creative package.
Get this; the Dell support website DOES offer a stand-alone executable to install the card. However, when I run it the installer terminates and tells me that I don't have a Creative Sound Blaster installed in my system. Device Manager lists the appropriate driver, so I know the card is working as it should. However, the only way I can install the mixer is by using the Dell installation package to install the driver. I've tried uninstalling the Windows XP driver, but the installer still doesn't detect the card as being there.
Any suggestions on how to get this working? Also note that this is not the original installation of Windows; I installed a fresh copy when I got the system.
