I have a slight problem. I upgraded from windows 98 SE to windows xp. Windows xp detected my sound card and installed the proper drivers. However, I'm still not getting any sound out of the speakers. I have checked to make sure nothing is muted and that the speakers are connected. Any suggestions? My sound card once again - creative ensoniq audioPCI - ES-1373. HELP!

This is what creative labs website said about your sound card.

Sorry, driver files and software updates are currently not available for your Sound Blaster Ensoniq AudioPCI running under Windows XP.

I bet you need a driver.

Try this. Reboot into the BIOS. Run setup defaults, save and reboot to XP.

I'm back. I went into the BIOS and noticed that the audio device was listed as enabled. I went ahead and reset the BIOS. The audio device was once again listed as enabled. However, I still have no sound. I have tried installing the original windows 98 drivers that came with it but xp won't let me. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem as you. I migrated to XP from SE98 and i got the same problems. I am currently waiting for the release of the XP drivers for the audio card. If you have got other ways to make it work, pls share it with me...Thanks

I solved the problem by going to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q302710
which led me to
http://www.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=6324
The problem is that our sound card was made to support analog and digital speakers. The XP sonnd card driver only supports analog speakers. My gateway came with Boston DIGITAL speakers (BA735).
Gatewawy came up with an XP driver to support digital speakers. It works great, just follow ith installtion instructions.
Good Luck
