If you have a geniune xp cd, it will boot! of course unless it is scratched. It is as chuck says above. Bios must be set for the cd to boot before the harddrive or the harddrive will boot before it ever gets to the cd. Be sure to press a key quickly when it says too or it will pass the cd an move on to another booting drive.
