crazy scrolling

March 14, 2010 at 06:33:35
Specs: N/A
my computer suddenly started to scroll on its own accord,
up and down rapidly on anything with a scrollbar, even
the shutdown menu. I don't have a wireless mouse or
keyboard like other posts. I have a laser mouse with a
scroller. Cleaning hasn't worked. I also have a wacom
tablet could this be interferring?? Using the tablet pen
didn't change the scrolling problem. My virus scanner
picked up nothing, but its license also expired two days
ago. Is it a virus?,if so what is its name so i can analyse it,
if i can avoid reformatting it i'll b very happy. Help please

First try removing the tablet to eliminate this as a possibility. If it continues, try either a different mouse, or use your tablet/pen without the mouse temporarily (shut down, then swap between) to eliminate possibilities. Then check control panel/mouse and pointers to see if the settings have somehow changed to conflicting ones. Then if none of those works, try updating your drivers for your mouse and your tablet.
If you are not willing or able to pay for an update for your antivirus software, try a different one, or try a free one. Many use Avg I believe it is, and if you need a quick clean out, also download Malwarebytes and Superantispyware for that purpose. (I use Webroot's Antivirus with AntiSpyware if you want a good product, but you will need to pay for it)

Thankyou so much for your help, when i turned on my computer this morning it was miraculously fixed, i guess it was just one of those things, or it must have been the wacom acting crazy. if it pops up again i will attempt your advice, thanks again.

Just one of those things. Restarting often helps with relatively minor problems. Windows builds up small errors in the running memory over hours of use and shutting down clears these away and reloads everything on start up from memory.
Thank you for letting us know you are fixed.
